Lactose intolerance?

Last night I ate a shiteload of dairy on a bit of a binge - pepperoni pizza, stuffed crust, with extra cheese, a mug of milk, chocolate biscuits AND some yoghurt. So yeah, pretty much everything I ate was dairy orientated. I spent the night with awful stomach cramps and feeling so ill :( The only thing I can conclude is, since I felt ok this morning, it's something to do with the dairy.

I've been trying to keep dairy free today but most things I eat have it in there somewhere :S Is anyone lactose intolerant? What do you do about hot drinks?! And cheese? I love cheese. I can NOT live without cheese!

Worth noting as well that I've just been eating complete crap over the last fortnight. Feeeeeel like a pig :yy:

  1. I'm lactose intolerant. If I have dairy I get acidy heartburn or reflux. And...dodgy poo!
I have soya in my hot drinks and on cereal, I'd recommend alpro either lite or sweetened (blue pack, red is skanky!) erm I don't really have cheese except very occasionally.
Lactose intolerance is where you don't have the enzyme to digest lactose (lactase) most people in the world don't have this enzyme after the age of 5 or so, others stop producing it at different ages.
However this means if you have bacterial yoghurt it is fine because the bacteria in the yoghurt 'live yoghurt' digests the lactose for you :)
Just avoid it as much as possible giving yourself the odd treat, work out what gives you a bad reaction (like drinking milk!) and what is ok :) x

  2. If your body isn't used to certain foods (like if you haven't eaten pizza in a long time or it's greasier than you are used to), they can cause stomach cramps and such. And sometimes eating the wrong combinations of foods can cause stomach cramps. Or you could have just eaten too much and had stomach cramps from that. I think you would have had problems before now if you were lactose intolerant.

  3. It might also be a spot of IBS. If I have small amounts of dairy, I'm OK. If I have a lot, I suffer, but if I combine lactose, gluten AND sugar, I'm fucked!

I hope you feel better soon. <3. XXX.

  4. Ew.
    My mom is lactose intolerant.
I would say that you can have your cheese and stuff as long as you do it in moderation.
That is what my mom does, and she feels all right. :)
I hope you have had a wonderful day; you deserve it!
    Stay positive, stay beautiful! <3

  5. Are you sure it wasn't just your stomach complaining about how much you ate? Or the mix of the foods? Cause mine sometimes does that and then the next morning i feel fine... =)

  6. You might want to take some Calcium supplements since you won't be consuming any dairy. It takes a while to get used to your new lifestyle, but you will find there are a lot of alternative products. You can get lactose free milk and even ice cream. Take Lactaid. It's not only a pill but also products such as Lactaid Milk. It is milk that has had the part of the lactose removed that is difficult for us to digest. It helps Then be more selective about what you eat and drink! Sometimes I'm lucky enough that I can get away with drinking it or eating it in foods. Some cheeses will give you the runs; and some coffee creamers will also, because of the Whey in them, or milk solids. You have to READ READ READ labels to see what is in the food you want to buy. It is very difficult to buy stuff without some form of milk in them. It's more expensive, but you can go to Health Food stores and find items that we can have! However some times, it doesn't taste all that great, but it is better than having the runs and cramps all the time. Also, Acidolphus can help, but however, some people it doesn't help at all, so you have to experiment. But I highly recommend go to the Health Food Stores and look for answers there, or even a doctor that works with herbs etc. Like you can drink Rice milk which is pretty good, eat ice cream made from Mocha mix; no milk shakes! lol the body properly digest milk products.

  7. For a while I was REALLY sensitive to milk, so I couldn't have any or I'd be up all night.

For hot drinks, there'll plenty of milk alternatives: soy, rice, almond, hemp... And there's a TON of non-dairy cheese out there that tastes pretty good (the Daiya brand is good).

I felt so much better w/o dairy that I simply stopped eating it, but your stomach only needs a bit of time to calm down. :)
